Mid-West Family Broadcasting in Michigan’s Great Southwest seeks inquiries and/or applications from minority, high school, and college students in the areas of Telecommunications, Broadcasting, Promotions/Marketing, Broadcast Journalism, Sales, or related emphasis areas. Internships are available for all semesters. Part-time or full-time, depending on school, credit available, etc.; term and start dates to be determined; all based on student’s situation.
One or more students will be selected for a custom-tailored internship program, working and learning alongside more than 50 broadcast professionals in our “six-station” cluster in Southwest Michigan.
Mid-West Family Broadcasting is an industry leader in broadcast sales training, radio news and community service. Nationally recognized broadcast sales trainers Chuck Mefford and Chris Lytle both are former Mid-West Family Broadcast Group managers. Radio news alumni can be found at NBC-TV, CNN, and CBS/Westinghouse. WSJM AM and WYTZ FM have been honored by the National Association of Broadcasters with the Crystal Award for news, public service and community involvement. WSJM has also been MAB Station of the Year 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Mid-West Family Broadcasting in Michigan’s Great Southwest is the home to 6 radio stations – Rock 107 WIRX, News/Talk 94.9 WSJM FM, Sports Radio 95.7 WSJM, 97.5 Y-Country WYTZ, SuperHits 103.7 COSY FM and Today’s Best Mix! 98.3 the Coast WCXT. Our brands include/; MoodyOnTheMarket.com, Town Crier Wire, Music Express Mobile DJ Service, Radio Super Saver, Radio Dining Deals, Smooth Jazz at Sunset, Summer Jam, Wedding World, and more.
These internships in Southwest Michigan seek to provide opportunities to minority, high school, and college students for earlier exposure to real-world broadcasting experience. It also seeks to identify potential career candidates earlier, allowing them to more fully investigate and evaluate opportunities with Mid-West Family Broadcasting in Michigan’s Great Southwest. Internship duties & responsibilities at Mid-West Family Broadcasting may include:
Gathering data for Sales account lists
Creating Marketing Information Tools
Going out in the field with Sales Representatives
Attending weekly Sales Communication, Sales Training Meetings
Assisting with planning and executing major station promotions
Attending Promotions Meetings with individual station Program Directors
Working several Public Relations shifts at community station events
Creating posters/excel sheets/design/coupons/signage
Creating Event Overviews
Filing/Support for Business Manager and Receptionist
Work Smooth Jazz Concert – Concert Staff
Work Summer Jam Concert – Concert Staff
Prep and post Public Service Announcements for on-air and websites
Studio engineer/board-op for live broadcasts
Update web-sites, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Pages
Gather data base info for marketing and listener communications
Assist in updating music libraries
Assist with prep work for Morning Shows
News – Assist in writing, reporting & covering meetings
Shadow all 6 live morning shows, assist as needed
